Saints were knocked out of the FA Cup by their south coast neighbours this afternoon, as Portsmouth recorded their first ever win at St Mary's. The victory, however, was not as comprehensive as the scoreline suggests, as Saints dominated large portions of the match and wasted a host of chances. The difference in class, however, eventually told as Pompey took the chances they knew would inevitably come their way in the second half. It produced the kind of result most would expect given the two tiers that divide the teams, but Saints can be proud to have held their own and more against a side presently 37 places above them in the football ladder.
